Plinky.com: “Lucky Number”

Today’s Plinky.com prompt was, “What’s your lucky number?” Here’s my response and the Flickr.com pic I selected to illustrate it. ;o)

22, Twenty-Two – The Number Set

My lucky number comes from my family: 22. It’s the day my husband and I married (Oct. 22), the day my first child was born (July 22), and the day I held my second child for the first time (Oct. 22 — one day after she was born in an emergency C-section).

Plinky.com: “Ferris Wheel Memory”

Today’s Plinky.com prompt was, “Recall the last time you were on a Ferris Wheel.” Here’s my response and the Flickr.com pic I selected to illustrate it. ;o)

Ferris Wheel

My grown daughter was in high school and my 14-year-old was in elementary school the last time I took a spin on a Ferris wheel. I loved that feeling of swooping up over the treetops and looking over the fairgrounds. And then Caitlyn wanted to scoot over to the seat opposite me, beside her big sister, where I couldn’t hold onto her when the seat rocked. I let her move over when we stopped briefly for another seat to load, but my heart was in my throat the whole time. (They never stop seeming so fragile to us, do they.)

Plinky.com: “Having It All”

Today’s Plinky.com prompt was, “What does “having it all” mean to you? Is it attainable?” Here’s my response and the Flickr.com pic I selected to illustrate it. ;o)

Sticky note about having a balanced life

Successful and balanced life

I think phrases like “having it all” are essentially meaningless, because they imply there is some mystical Happy Place we are striving to attain. I think if I ever arrived, I would grin for a while and then start kicking up some dust, wondering, “Well, NOW what?”

It takes clarity about what you want, balance among different areas of life, steady and long-term work, and an ability to enjoy the good moments along the way. And that feeling of making progress, making a difference and continuing to grow? That’s the closest thing I know to having it all.
