Pranked! Returning to Work After the Kidney Stone
As I sit here in my spacious cubicle — surrounded by an Operation game, a ginormous stackout of kidney beans, photo frames now holding closeups on various rocks, a quart of cranberry juice, streamers, and a desk and floor strewn with kidney beans and pink-tinted fish tank gravel (for “stones”) — I am reminded that what goes around, comes around.
See, I helped decorate a co-worker’s cubicle when she returned to the office after a nasty bout of pinkeye. Today, when I got back from three days off after my lithotripsy for a big kidney stone, she returned the favor. In spades.
That’s literal — they included a toy shovel to help “move things along.”
See their wicked handiwork below.

Your office is super festive! The kidney beans assembled in pyramid style is a nice touch, indeed. (Glad you are stone-free!)

Hi, Kerrianne!
Re my co-workers and their handiwork: Aren’t they wicked? That’s what I love about them. I’m just glad it didn’t occur to them to, er, “go for the gold” and bring in potty chairs and worse. Of course, they *did* bring by tour groups of other co-workers off and on throughout the day. :o)
But mostly, it was touching just to be remembered. They also got a very pretty silk flower arrangement for my desk, which will stay up long after the paper streamers have come down.
Thanks for the “no stoner” good wishes, too! So far so good. I go back for my one-week checkup either Wednesday or Thursday (still trying to set up), and I expect to hear good results. I think I’m going to be careful about drinking plenty of water for the rest of my life — the doc said dehydration is a major contributing factor to stone formation — who knew? Right now I’m adjusting to the feeling of walking around like a sloshing, mobile swimming pool.
Actually, there are some other smaller stones still in place. The procedure just busted up the 6mm one (about the size of the top of a pencil eraser). I kind of dread if/when the others decide to bid me adieu. I’m such a wimp!
