47×365, No. 23 - Oxford Landlady
by Carolyn
We were middle-class poor, and you kept our $800 deposit for the bricked-in flowerbed I built without permission, the paint-scarring vines I didn’t yank promptly enough from the front wall, and the screen door damage the previous tenant did. I’m sorry I cleaned the house so carefully.

Hey, I know that lady!
This little vignettes thingy is pretty cool, btw.

Hi, RhodesTer! Oooh, don’t get me started on that land”lady” who ripped us off. The sad part? She wasn’t the worst. One kept our $500 deposit for minor points like leaving the eyes of the stove dirty … which she inspected before we had finished cleaning up. Another one in the way-distant past kept a $150 deposit for “smudges on the door frame” (made during the move, and missed by me) and paint dots spilled on the floor (again, by a previous tenant). It drove me nuts, because conscience kept me from ever leaving a place before scrubbing it ceiling to floor. I’m talking wiping down the tops of door frames, steam cleaning carpet, repairing anything broken or damaged, etc.
They are all lucky I’m not a witch doctor, that’s all I’m sayin’.
:oP
