Twitter Digest: My Tweets for 2008-05-18
Posted on 18 May 2008
- 17yo just called from the prom, wanting my advice about going all activist on the asses who are insulting a gay guy who’s her friend. #
- Comfort the friend, advise a chaperone, and ignore the jerks, I said, asking what happened. "They threw a fake boob at him!" #
- That, plus they called the boy a fag, which made me lose my snickers over the boob tossing. #
- I’m kind of touched that my girl called me to share the outrage, though.
) # - I weaseled out of the prom chaperoning. Since the move to the local town square, there have been more parents step up. I’m glad to stay in. #
- Um, I meant that the PROM moved to the town square, a rather peculiar prom spot, what with the grassy surface. But I won’t judge.
) # - @QueenofSpain COOL! Seriously? COOL! #
- @mommastantrum lol — Benadryl is a desperate mom’s friend. #
- 10yo, who has a sore throat and sniffles and can’t sleep, just broke 17yo’s favorite mug. Woe is her when big sis gets home. #
- @GrammarGirl Dumb question here: How is GoToMyPC different from the free "Remote desktop connection" that comes on Windows? Just curious. #
- Why do cats always find it intensely interesting when someone breaks a glass and you desperately wish they’d stay out until cleanup is done? #
- Gotta go — 10yo wants me to look at lolcats online with her. Later, Tweets! #
- @TeeMonster lol Funny, I was just looking on Flickr for bag-on-the-head photos to illustrate a post of mine. I should have just Tweeted you! #
- @bgsand Hey, there — just logging back into Twitter. I know what you mean about high school being … ugh … high school! #
- @mommastantrum Re the Benadryl: Hey, it works whoever takes it — out like a light! #
- @mommastantrum The fake boob tossing made me snicker and suppress comments like, "Well, keep me abreast." #
- @Peter_Gent Re my daughter sticking up for her friend: She’s definitely a class act — thanks!
) # - @Breathes_girl You’re absolutely right! I was lucky that it helped mine when they were sniffly & cranky. (Or me, when I was the same.) #
- @coffeesisterRe hot coffee & hot lovin’: I’m giving you a pathetically non-hip, "You go, girl!" #
- @coffeesister Okay, now you’re getting an "Amen, sister!" #
- @RhodesTer So you survived the hotel’s frat boy infestation, did you?
P # - @coffeesister I’ve been wobbling about removing the post; it might be a bit cowardly instead of talking to him. But now? Both. THANKS! #
- @RhodesTer Don’t sleep where the frats can find you. Eyebrows will be shaved. Not pretty. #
- My daughter’s sweetie, who is visiting this weekend for the prom, is calling me by my first name. Flattering to be liked. But I mind. #
- @RhodesTer *laughing* I can only guess how many different types of hotel guests you’ve said THAT about! #
- @coffeesister Oh, I’m way too honest when he’d rather Not Discuss something. But we do anyway. I’m not good at smoldering. Flames? Yes. #
- @msh2006 She’s 17, almost 18. Sweetie is 21, a point I agonized about before permitting the dates. Sweetie is nice & we’ve met/talked a lot. #
- @msh2006 You should have seen my husband’s face, though, when Sweetie used HIS first name. Sweetie backtracked, pronto. #
- @coffeesister Tipping hat to you and @msh2006. Thanks! #
- @toddw Amen! When I worked for my first husband’s daddy, I called him "Mr. Hurt" even though everyone in the office called him "Walter." #
- I haven’t mentioned this because it complicates discussions, but my 17yo is gay — came out in Dec., to her surprised but supportive family. #
- Thus, "Sweetie" is a her. Nice gal. I’m amazed how nice their friends were at the prom. In my day, people would have been cruel. #
- @coffeesister You are so right. I used to be so honest it was brutal. Now I’m more of a "honest, with restraint" kind of gal.
) # - @msh2006 Thanks! She knew I’d have her back, but she’s still afraid to tell her daddy. He’s very conservative, judgmental. #
- Girlfriend will be at daughter’s graduation this Tuesday, so guess who’s been delegated to tell Daddy that his only child is gay? #
- Having girlfriend OR daddy not show up is unthinkable, she says. I say that’s perfectly fine, but you know your dad. No scenes desired. #
- Reason for telling — girlfriend dresses and grooms very stereotypically butch (in a cool, streety kind of way). And daddy knows her. #
- My side of the family, stepdad’s family, sister, etc. all know & are OK. As are daddy’s sisters, who said, "DON’T EVER TELL HIM." #
- @msh2006 Thanks. I just hate to tell him because I know his reaction and I don’t want him to get ugly with her. Better now than Tuesday, tho #
- @toddw Thanks! My girl is so cool — how could I think any less of her for being who she is? I love that she told me, too. #
- @coffeesister Heh-heh. I too champ at any bit someone tries to place in my mouth. "Honest with consideration" works.
) # - @toddw Also, the nifty part is that the people she likes are 99% of the time people that I like too. She’s a magnet for good people. #
- Whoops, just looked at the time. Lunch already? Guess I should actually, um, get dressed. Later, tweets! #
- Hey, tweets, I’m back. (Hold the applause.)
P # - @mommastantrum The girlfriend is a friend of his niece and he knows her, knows that she is gay. He wouldn’t be fooled. #
- @radix33 Only reason he hasn’t been told: my 17yo won’t & she begged me not to. I’m like you — tug the Bandaid off & get it over with.
) # - @coffeesister I’m glad to hear about your bro. It validates my thought that it’s better to be yourself; are people loving the facade or you? #
- @CityMama Yeah — can you believe they’re already plotting a constitutional amendment to put the ban back on? I despair of intrusive zealots #
- Thanks to all for your support — I’m gonna go call her daddy now. Wish him tolerance and me the gift of gentle gab.
) # - Maybe I didn’t give the man enough credit. He just said, "Really." I asked him to be kind to her, whether or not he approves. He said OK. #
- Of course, he’s the sort to stew for a while and then respond. (17yo is much like him.) I should know in an hour or so if he really means it #
- @toddw I’m crossing my fingers. A few years ago, he would have bowed up. I’m thrilled that I underestimated the bigness of his heart today. #
- Okay, now I’m really going to quit pretending I’m doing housework and actually go DO some. Later, tweets! #
- @msh2006 Ideally it would have been in person but time didn’t permit. So I did it over the phone a few hours ago. He took it well.
) # - @msh2006 Following you now!
) # - @coffeesister Good vibes are always appreciated.
) # - @SarcasticMomLC *clapping* #
- @msh2006 yeah, he’s a very traditional Catholic, so I understand it must have been tough. But he was nice. Thank goodness he adores her. #
