Chillin’ at Mickey D’s in Jasper, AL
Either my daughter and her ride back home from Georgia got really crummy directions from MapQuest (perish the thought) or they just left totally late and are gaming* me, her gullible mother. Either way, I’m stuck at the halfway point between Woodstock, GA, and Collierville, TN. That puts me in Jasper, AL, cooling my heels for the next two hours with my laptop and some very reasonably priced WiFi ($2.95/2 hours) at McDonald’s. I offered to drive further, but they said for me to just sit tight.
Why am I typing in America’s fast-food heaven, you ask? Because the gals were not at the right Garfield’s pub in the right city. They were madly circling ANOTHER Garfield’s in another city almost two hours away. The mixup is that they’re both on Highway 78 in the same state. ::eye roll:: I sense some overly hasty Googling of the location on my girl’s part.
We figured it out after 45 minutes of me going, “What do you MEAN you don’t see me in the parking lot? I’m in a green velour jogging suit, with a big-ass black purse. I’m a size 24, for God’s sake (sorry, Jesus) — how are you MISSING seeing me?”
Anyway … did you see the other little shocker in my first paragraph? WiFi at Mc-FREAKING-DONALD’s? What’s the world coming to. But here I sit, merrily typing over the sound system’s overly perky “You are STILL the one” and the sounds of staffers with some of the most gloriously Southern accents I’ve ever heard (and I’m from Mississippi, so that’s going some). No big deal; just a silly mistake, and I’m content to wait. If I’ve got an Internet connection, I can pass the time anywhere.
So … how’s YOUR Easter Sunday going?
*Update: No, they weren’t gaming me. They were totally lost. :o)
