Entrecard: I’m DONE with Power Dropping
Posted on 18 March 2008
I’m calling an early end to the Entrecard experiment. All the glitches at Entrecard.com have soured me on the experience, at least as it applies to dropping the maximum of 300 cards per day. I’ll continue to use the system as a useful way to find interesting new blogs to read, but no more click-click-clicking solely to rack up the points and to raise my blog in the category ranking.
Why? It’s just too discouraging:
- to click and not get credits
- to try to click and only get “invalid” results
- to click through on blogs that are fast loading but which don’t have topics that match my interests
So from here on out, I’m ONLY going to click on Entrecard blogs that:
- look as if they might be interesting (that’s one click)
- maintain my interest (that’s many, many future clicks)
Sorry — I’m dropping out of the click race. It was an interesting experiment for me, and maybe it’ll be a good idea again someday when Entrecard is working without daily glitches.
The GOOD news is that my Entrecard prices will probably plummet, while my blog contents will return to their usual programming.

Well, you can still at least reciprocate those who dropped their EntreCards into your EntreCard Inbox in the first place.
Become a “passive” dropper instead of an active “power dropper” and I don’t think you will need to drop 300 EntreCards a day by then.
Cheers!

I drop less than a 100 a day, usually (some days none at all because I’m busy with work) but I’m still up in the top 10 of the category somehow. Which is actually a nuisance because it means my ad cost is high. I’m not in Entrecard for the credits, I’m in it for the blogs, and it’s a far more enjoyable and relaxed way of doing it, as far as I’m concerned.

Well, I have my own thoughts on Entrecard. First I was skeptical; but now that I’ve used it to browse around, I’ve found sites I wouldn’t have otherwise seen—Drops of Blood is one of them.
And some Entrecard folks who have visited my site have left comments, read articles, etc. In some ways, they have helped me focus my articles—I know it’s a good article when it can catch the attention of Entrecard people passing by, particularly in my own and related categories.
So the Entrecard experiment has been good for me. I haven’t bought any ads, and still it’s brought in more than enough traffic for me to be happy with. I’ll probably buy some more ads at some point, when Spontaneous Derivation is more solidified in the whole “unholy marriage of writing and blogging” thing.
I drop Entrecards manually, as it were. A fast machine helps. When I find sites with interesting articles for the day, I put them aside to read later. It’s an interesting way to travel. And while tipping is uncertain these days, I can always drop my card every time I come back as appreciation.
I do this even for sites which don’t return my drops.

Hiya Carolyn -
Just stumbled in via your fiction blog. I’m enjoying what I’ve read of both of them so far!
Thanks so much for this post. I’ve been thinking of using entrecard, but it seems buggy to me… this confirms it.
Maybe down the road it will be better, eh?

I’m a newbie to Entrecard, so I haven’t noticed any significant changes in my traffic. However, I have found loads of other blogs that I’m interested in. Nothing ventured, nothing gained right?

I am also new to Entrecard and learning the concept of social networking. It has helped my Alexa traffic rank a little and dropping doesn’t take that much time out of my schedule to do.
One of the things I like the best is able to find sites within my niche and leave comments and that helps me to build backlinks.
I am also able to see what others are talking about in my niche which helps me think of what to write about and what people actually are interested in out there on the Internet.
Overall, I like Entrecard. There are some bugs and many sites load very slow as you said. I just bookmark the fast ones and those who drop on me and use that list first. This seems to be working for me so far, so I will stick with it and tweak it a bit.

Sorry that I’ve been sooooo sloooow to respond to everyone’s feedback on my last Entrecard post. (No excuses — just bad time management.) Now that I’m not trying to be a Power Dropper, I’m back to enjoying the exploratory nature of the system. Most days, I click between 15 and 30 now.
And I’m glad that you found your way here!
Best, Carolyn

Hey, dr801!
Thanks for the head’s up. I think I’ve satisfied myself for now that Entrecard isn’t where I want to spend my time. But that’s a great tip for an EC tool. Maybe some of the others who find their way to this blog post will get the benefit. So thanks!
